The M50 motorway around Dublin is being upgraded to improve traffic flow. The €1 billion investment is being managed by the National Roads Authority and the four Dublin Local Authorities and is being delivered under three separate phases.

Phase 1 is almost complete, Phase 2 is underway since January 2008 and Phase 3, from the Toll Plaza to the N3, is substantially completed. The entire Upgrade Scheme will be completed in 2010.

When completed the 31Km M50 Upgrade will provide:

Three lanes in each direction from the Sandyford Junction to the M1 Junction
Freeflow traffic at the M1, N3, N4 and N7 Junctions
Partial free-flow at six other Junctions
Additional fourth lanes linking successive Junctions
Barrier-free tolling.

Regular changes to the road layout are implemented to facilitate construction works. We advise those using the M50 to plan their journey and to check for travel updates before making a journey as changes are put in place daily.

Emergency telephone numbers and tow-away lanes are also in place throughout the works.
